A mineral nutrient is an essential element other than carbon, hydrogen, nitrogen or oxygen that must be repeatedly consumed to promote growth and development, and to sustain health.

Examples of essential minerals for human beings include boron, calcium,  chlorine, cobalt, copper, chromium, iodine, iron, magnesium, molybdenum, phosphorus, potassium, selenium, sodium, sulfur and zinc.
